As I’ve started to explore the edges of syndication and enclosures it became apparent that we need to look at the transient nature of the masses. So I have started to explore concepts that include an extension to iPodder that will SMS a message and bookmark to my Nokia 3650 when a new show appears in an RSS feed. The significance of this is of course that if I’m on the road and can’t actually sync a new show with my iPod, I can revert to a lower quality device for the same content. In this case a converted alternative 3GP file of the show that is being processed by a folder action in OSX and then placed on a publicly addressable server. I then can listen to the show on my 3650 using the embedded Real Helix player.
Adam might not appreciate the quality of the audio since its been significantly down-sampled but it does allow me to access content when and where I deem it necessary. I love my iPod but until it has the ability to access the network as a standalone device (Apple are you listening? Bluetooth to my GPRS/EDGE/3G data network) I want the ability to choose an alternative device.
I’ve included a version of a random DailySource with Adam Curry in 3GP so that you can check it out.
